At 7:45, we departed for yet another full and beautifully sunny day.
- Korazim
- Our first destination found us at Korazim. In the New Testament, Korazim is referenced as a city condemned by Jesus for its lack of faith. Our teaching lesson centered around the practices of the insula--the community in which families lived. We also considered the wedding practices of families in Biblical times.
- Dan
- In the city of Dan, we welcomed "a quiet walk in the park." In this beautiful area complete with rushing water, trees, flowers and birds, we learned that the tribe of Dan served God and Baal, and gave up their inheritance for the land they had been been promised.
- Caesarea Phillippi
- From the city of Dan we spent time at a place with a darker history--Caesarea Phillippi where a pagan temple was built to honor many pagan gods. This is also the place that Jesus asked Peter, "Who do they say I am?" Peter's answer, "You are the Christ" is the foundation of our faith. During this time we were very aware of how close we were to the Lebanese and Syrian borders.
- Mensa Christi
- The purported place where Jesus asked Peter, "Do you love me?" This was also where Jesus names Peter as the head of the Church (The restoration of Peter).
- Capernaum
- Capernaum is the home of Peter's (the fisherman) mother-in-law.
- Sermon on the Mount
- We ended our day sitting on a hillside listening to Bill share the Sermon on the Mount passage as we looked out over the Sea of Galilee...just as it probably was for Jesus' disciples.
As is the practice of this group, we end our day in prayer--thanking God for strength for the day, for ears to hear, eyes to see and hearts that have received the lessons God is offering us each day.
